The Foundation.

Primarily It's a Party has been a Calgary design industry networking event for the past 25 years. Through corporate design industry sponsorship, the Party has raised funds to support the event, and the MRU interior design students with scholarships, studio supplies and technology during their degree program.

In 2018, the university made the difficult decision to end the Party.

But we couldn’t let it end there!

A core group of program ID Alumni Chapter members decided to start a foundation and with the approval of MRU and the Department of Interior Design, a refocused Party tradition begins.

The Foundation, which operates at an arm’s length from MRU, has been created in order to continue the 25-year legacy that connects industry members with the students and new graduates of the Mount Royal University Interior Design program.

The Foundation members intend to continue the tradition of ‘Primarily It’s a Party’ by getting back to the basics and honouring the original intent of the party. As always, any proceeds from the event will be donated back to the Interior Design Department to continue to support the students.

As the Foundation becomes more established, it is our hope that more opportunities will be created for industry and students, beyond Primarily It’s a Party.

The Party.

Primarily It’s a Party is a Calgary Interior Design Tradition. For years, the party has welcomed members of the industry, including designers and architects, and our industry partners like furniture and product representatives, engineering consultants, general contractors and trade partners.

While it is the biggest industry event of the year, it is also an opportunity for the current students and graduates of the Mount Royal University’s Interior Design program to be welcomed into our industry. It is a great night to network, for everyone, but especially the students.

We like to think of the night as an industry reunion. The interior design industry in Calgary is tight-knit and this is the night where you know you will see all your industry friends, colleagues, and partners.

In 2019 we welcomed over 500 members of the Calgary interior design industry to Primarily It’s a Party, and raised a lot of money to give back to the students and the Interior Design program.
